Description: Fresh from her Carnegie Hall premiere, videoartist KASUMI teams up with experimental noise band KEN REI and projection artist KRAMER in a LIVE drive-by remixed-media extravaganza. Kasumi’s bizarre legions of found footage characters move with heart-pounding, eye-popping precision to the textured sound and gritty beats of attention-deficit electronic sound experimentalists Ken Rei (Adrian Bertolone, Irsten Horowitz and Andreas Tekus). Through cutting-edge technical wizardry, Andrew Kramer delivers this audio/visual mayhem several stories high from his custom-equipped MUV (Media Utility Vehicle).
Reminiscent of William Burroughs’ surrealist-inspired cut-up narrative techniques, informed by Sergei Eisenstein’s pioneering use of montage,
inspired by Robert Rauschenberg’s fragmentary layering and Andy Warhol’s brightly stained iconography, Kasumi’s imagery fractures and
re-structures visual experience, changing the time signature of perception.
Individual experiences of desire and loss, set against an eternity of physical law, are subject to the blinking ambiguity of the present: things becomes instant shadows of themselves, etched on crumbling infrastructure, as the future bypasses the present with the cognitive equivalent of a sonic boom. Kasumi’s audio “found libretto” is fed into Ken Rei’s pantheon of instrumentation that includes bent toys and game boys, vintage samplers, guitar pedals, drum machines, turntables, and keyboards resulting in a sound comparable to Black Dice and Autechre. By using multiple video cards and expansion modules and enabling multiple projectors and displays along with a state of the art sound system, Kramer is able to create a massive outdoor sound and projection for this one-night only event.
LIVE Saturday, July 11. One show only!
