Ingenuity’s All-Year Programming

Most people are familiar with Ingenuity as a Festival celebrating creativity and innovation.  But Ingenuity functions all year producing events that fulfill our mission of exploring where humanity and technology connect.  These programs include:

006The Bal Ingénieux – this one-night only annual event revives Cleveland historic Kokoon Arts Club parties When they started in 1912, these events were emblematic of a city at the epicenter of creativity and innovation and whose best days lie ahead.   We think that’s as true today as ever.  Bal Ingénieux 2015 took place on May 16, at the Kalman and Pabst photo group.

Maker faire1Cleveland Mini Maker Faire – Ingenuity teamed up with the Cleveland Public Library to present Clevleand’s own Maker Faire.  The event drew over 4,000 people to library in its first two years, engendering creativity, learning, and the inspiration to make something on your own. The third annual Faire was held on June 6, 2015 from 10am – 4pm at the Cleveland Public Library. Check back to apply for the 2016 Maker Faire!

Up and Down East Ninth – a collaboration between LAND studio and Ingenuity, with support from the City of Cleveland, Downtown Cleveland Alliance and Destination Cleveland. This 2 year-long project to activate East 9th Street with the unexpected is made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Apply above under the tab “2015 Call For Entries.”

DSC01633Hackathon Series – our inaugural hackathon event was 2014’s Rockathon held in partnership with the TANZ group over 24 hours at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Based on the wild success of that event, we are honing and refining a hackathon format that is replicable, iterative, and brings together the best resources, both organizational and individual, that Cleveland has to offer, in search of real solutions to real problems. In 2015 we developed the Cleveland Health and Wellness Hack in partnership with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a host of other partners.

DSCF6099The Benjamins – a group of young professionals (or young-minded!) dedicated to spreading Ingenuity’s vision, mission and raising a little bit of cash for us (get it? we’re raising Benjamins?? Ha!) at events throughout the year! Below are events and programs they are working on! Interested in getting involved? Send your résumé & a paragraph on why you’d like to join to annie@ingenuitycleveland.org

Alexandru Patatics_Color_1x1_CCreative Fusion Artist – this program from the Cleveland Foundation brings international artists to Cleveland for a three-month residency.  Ingenuity hosted Yun Sabi (South Korea) as part of the program in 2013, Adeel uz Zafar (Pakistan) in 2014, and Alexandru Patatics (Romania) in 2015.

10297770_10154174736885235_5080628816151279308_nIngenuityLabs – a program of ongoing performance / art / technology hybrid projects being developed throughout the year.  The purpose of these projects is to cultivate talent that is forming the unique creative hub that exists in Northeast Ohio.

Engines of Ingenuity SummitAgents of Ingenuity – a gathering of professionals working in the space where humanity and technology meet.  Medical, engineering, retail, IT, performance, sports, education, and many more fields grapple with both the positive and negative impacts of connectivity between people and technology.  This conference debuted as part of Ingenuity Fest 2014, and reemerged in 2015 as a podcast and conversation series in partnership with Design Lab High School & the Bop Stop.

Past Programs:

IndieFest and Workshop  to help celebrate, explore, and promote the amazing craft of independant film making, Ingenuity is hosting the “IndieFest Filmmaker’s Workshop.” This free event offered the opportunity to network with award-winning indie filmmakers, production companies, and others involved in the film industry.  Ingenuity also used the event to launch the “IndieFest Film Festival” which debuted at IngenuityFest 2013.  Presenters included Tom Megalis, Sean Lackey, Cynthia Graham, Peter Sampson, and Jason Drake.
