Doug Meyer and Dustin Grella “Atari Lounge”

by admin on June 24, 2009

The team of artists consisting of Dustin Grella, Kevin Busta, and Doug Meyer will be showcasing their project in the Ohio Theatre lobby July 10, 11 and 12. The team will construct a conceptual lounge based entirely on Atari themes, now known as The Atari Lounge. The lounge will feature Atari-inspired furniture, lighting and sound. Atari gaming consoles will be set up for participants to reminisce the good ol’ days, when two-dimensional triangles known as “battleships” destroyed two-dimensional squares known as “asteroids.” Several of these consoles will have video cards installed, enabling the consoles to be projected onto walls for large-screen gaming. Gamers will order thier games at the “bar,” find an open console and let loose on the lounge floor. Gaming competitions will be scheduled during the event and prizes will be awarded to the winners. A soundtrack constructed entirely of Atari sounds remixed via Mac will pump through the loudspeakers. Additional surprises will be unleashed during the event.

Dustin Grella is a Medina-born, New York-based recent graduate from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, with an emphasis on animation. His projects can be found at www.Dustingrella.com.

Kevin Busta is a self-taught Medina-based artist whose furniture works have been written up in the New York Times. His works can be found online at www.22ndcenturycompositions.com.

Doug Meyer is a self-taught Akron artist whose art cars and inflatable environments have been featured in past Ingenuity Festivals and countless other events.
