Material Matters
ASM International is Everything Material, the materials information society based in Northeast Ohio since 1920. We proudly present our gallery, Material Matters, comprised of 10 micrographs – photos of metals at high magnification. Micrographs are used in heat treating, failure analysis and quality control to ensure that the alloys have been processed correctly, and they blend artistry and technology in a spectacular way. Envision and color your own micrograph to win a prize! At IngenuityFest, ASM is launching ASM/Mtrl, a free online site that provides “material about materials” specifically for industrial designers. Visit www.mtrl.com for information on materials from bamboo to titanium, presented the way that designers want their information – packed with personality, not just data. Over the next 12 months, ASM will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our headquarters building at Materials Park in Russell Township, home of R. Buckminster Fuller’s largest openwork geodesic dome.
